Dear Parents,
Wow, can you believe we have been in school for 1 month already?? The students have begun to settle into their routing nicely. We are all working on our independent skills such as hanging up backpacks, taking out homework, taking out our communication notebook, handing in notes, taking out our lunch boxes etc. Some of us still require some prompting or reminders but overall we are all doing great!

We are also working on following our daily schedule and transitioning from one place to another with minimal prompting. Again, this may be a work in progress for some.

All of us have been mainstreaming successfully to recess and lunch with the other 4th and 5th grade classes and we have been doing great! Some of us have begun to mainstream into related arts and so far we are doing well. We will continue to work with everyone to help them be successful in this area.

As soon as I receive the log on code and directions on how to get onto destination reading website through the school district website, I will send it home. This literacy program will be utilized in the classroom on a daily basis. I encourage each of you to try this with your child. The students will be learning important reading strategies and concepts through this program and they really enjoy it. Last year they asked for access to this program on a daily basis. I will incorporated this program into the reading center like I did last year.

Please be sure to check their communication notebooks and homework folders for homework and/or other important information. Also, please be sure to initial the bottom of each daily tracking sheet so that I know you are seeing it and please leave it stapled in the notebooks. If you are having any difficulties please let me know. Thanks again for all of your help and support on this matter.

Thank you again to all of those who so far have brought in their classroom supplies for their child. It is really important that we get the materials that they need for this year. We do need wipes, tissues, copy paper and some extra snacks sent in if possible such as goldfish, pretzels, etc. If you think of other items to send in that were not on the original list such as snacks, etc., please feel free to do so.

We are also in need of treasure box toys. Anything you can donate would be great. Thank you again for your support in this matter.

If you need to reach me, please feel free to e-mail me at the school at lunta@martin.k12.fl.us or you may call the school at 219-1555 ext 233. I will respond to you at my earliest convenience. If you plan on e-mailing me, please write down your e-mail address for me so that I may be able to identify you when you are e-mailing....thanks!
