Ms. Karen Haines - Art Program

Hello,

My name is Karen Haines and I am the art teacher at Jensen Beach Elementary. This is my tenth year teaching art to students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. I have a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts/Advertising Design, and hold a Florida Art Education Certification, K through 12th grade, and a New Jersey General Elementary Education Certification, Pre-K through 8th grade

Observing my students' enthusiasm towards learning about and creating art is the best part of my job. My main and most challenging objective is to instill the belief that "Everyone has an artist within them," and "All art is good in its own unique way." Art is a wonderful way for children to discover and express themselves. When others view their artwork in a positive manner, it not only makes them feel special but also builds self-confidence that carries over into other aspects of their life

.

My daily schedule is as follows: morning patrol of entry-doors, planning, 3rd grade, 5th grade, 4th grade, lunch, Kindergarten, 1st grade classes, 2nd grade classes, dismissal patrol. Although, the art room is a place where shared creativity and self-expression is encouraged, the same basic classroom rules regarding safety and positive behavior still apply. Grading is based on effort and behavior.

My curriculum is derived from the FL Sunshine State Standards for art. It includes hands-on projects, lessons in art history through visuals, reading, and writing, and classroom visits from local artists. We will be working in a variety of mediums and on an abundance of art projects throughout the school year. Many of the projects will be displayed in the hallways of the school, our Café’ Gallery, faculty lounge, conference rooms, Mr. Merritt and Ms. Kerr’s offices, at the Martin County Fair, Martin County School Board, Sailfish Fest, Black Heritage Festival, Robert Morgade Library, and other events in our community. Great efforts are made to show each student’s work at least once during the school year.

Art room news will also be posted in the "Art Corner" of Jenguard and/or the School Digest section in the Sunday Stuart News. If you would like to contact me at any time during the school year, please call the office at 219-1555 or via e-mail Hainesk@martin.k12.fl.us. I am looking forward to a great year in art with all of the JBE students!

Yours truly,

Karen M. Kirst Haines
