WELCOME to Kindergarten.  We want to thank all of the parents who attended Curriculum night.  We hope it was informative for you and that you got many of your questions answered.  We really enjoyed getting to know our new Kindergarten parents.

We are working very hard every day learning all about school and all of the new routines.  The children are doing very well!  In reading we are learning new robust vocabulary words and are beginning our study of letter sounds.  PLEASE continue to review upper and lower case letter names with your child each night to help him/her with this skill.  In math we are learning all about sorting objects in many different ways and are beginning our study of patterning.  In science we are studying the five senses.

We would like to welcome back Grandma Sue and Grandma Nancy, our foster Grandparents.  We would also like to welcome Miss Ashlee Fulton our student teacher from FAU.  Miss Voss has returned from her maternity leave and is anxious to get to know all of her new students and parents.  We want to thank Mrs. Dodsworth for all of her hard work getting the class up and running.  She was a wonderful, patient substitute and we hope to see her around campus often!

Karen Bayless

I’d like to introduce myself to the Jensen Beach Parent. My name is Karen Bayless and I am a Kindergarten teacher at Jensen Beach Elementary. I have been teaching kindergarten here since September 1988. I hold a degree in Early Childhood Education and am also ESOL endorsed. Prior to teaching Kindergarten, I was a pre-school teacher at the Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches. I provided homebound instructional services for blind/visually impaired and handicapped children from birth to age three. My greatest joy in teaching is watching the children become actively engaged and excited about learning. The most fulfilling reward a teacher can have is when children complete the reading of their first book and realize that they can actually read on their own. Building the foundation for excitement about learning is one of the most important jobs in education. I am proud to be given the opportunity to provide this to young children.
